Wow...how sad! No wonder they don't have a clear answer...it would be a complete lie! The workers should have to speak English...not the supervisor speaking Spanish! This country never ceases to amaze me!
1.)I guess the Oregon folks need to do some research on the effect of morale in groups like firefighters. You get rid of English speakers that are qualified for the job and morale could end up being a problem.... 2). The US seems to be the only country that does not require students to learn more than one language. This does hurt us economically because we are less able to compete in the global market. 3). If you want to live in the US then you need to be able to speak the language--how did this fireman get a license if he could not speak the language?

no way!
weird...I understand the safety issue, and I guess it's easier for one person to learn another language than a bunch...but still seems wrong.
Incredible. Even though I live here in Oregon, I hadn't heard this. I understand the safety issue but still...incredible.
