etsyBloggers & BlogFire November 20th, 2009 Blog Carnival

Our Etsy Bloggers Team November 20th Blog Carnival is being hosted by our one and only: Mystic Wynd (Karen) Who recently celebrated her birthday and one year anniversary on Etsy!

Karen chose the following two topic's for this Blog Carnival:

1) Most countries around the world have a day set aside to give thanks for a bountiful harvest. Here in the US, it's Thanksgiving. What do you celebrate wherever you live and how do you celebrate?

2) The holiday season will soon be here - what's your favorite holiday movie or special? Why?

What exactly IS a Blog Carnival? A blog carnival is basically a round up of links pointing to blog posts. The blog posts are submitted by our teammates on a specific topic. Participating in Blog Carnivals is a great way to build traffic to your own blog, and also a way to find other blogs that you might be interested in.

We celebrate Thanksgiving, though now that we are empty-nesters the long weekend is our favorite because my husband does not have to go to work for an entire four days!

The Thanksgiving weekend has certainly changed for us now that the kids are no longer kids, or living at home and/or near home. On the one hand, our son who is now 30 has chosen to cut us out of his life, following a history of troubles. God, I miss him so.

On the other hand, quite the opposite our 22 year old daughter lives hours away and is building her own life with her boyfriend, their home, work, and college. This year she and her boyfriend are spending the holiday with his family, all meeting in Tennessee. How ironic, the more she fits into adulthood, the busier is her life which makes our cherished visits further and further apart. We talk on the telephone most days, and often more than once. We are blessed.

Hubby and I have discussed camping, however I suspect that we will likely stay home, have a small scale traditional holiday dinner, probably go out on the boat fishing, and enjoy being completely lazy. Time will tell...

Please treat yourselves to a visit to Karen's shop Mystic Wynd. Spend some time reading her profile, you will be totally engrossed in this amazing women's well-written thoughts.

It's funny how the family grows, the holiday's seem to shrink. Although we all would like to be together on Thanksgiving. My daughter just had her baby and didn't want to travel. She was hoping we could all come there. One of my son's does filming for a TV station and has to film a Thanksgiving football game. So that takes care of that day. The next day is my daughter's B-day, and my other son has to work. Hopefully by Christmas we can all get our families together!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving even if you can't celebrate with your kids. My kids are so young right now that I can't even imagine them as grown adults and not spending holidays with me! It breaks my heart to think about it!

I live too far from my Mom to join in the big family meal too, so my boyfriend and I do the small scale turkey dinner with fixin's...some years it's nice to have a lower fuss holiday :)
Happy Thanksgiving!
